Mobile Boat & Outboard Winterization
Winterizing is cheap insurance against a cracked block or a spring full of surprises. I do it wherever the boat already sits — your driveway, the cabin, the storage lot — so there's no launching, hauling or waiting in a marina queue in October. Pontoons, fish and ski boats, outboards and I/Os all get the same checklist.
What I do on site
- Fuel stabilizer and fogging oil through the engine
- Lower unit gear oil drain, inspection and refill
- Engine oil and filter change on four-strokes
- Draining water and adding antifreeze where required
- Impeller and water-pump inspection or replacement
- Battery removal, testing and tender setup
- Trailer bearings, lights, tires and brakes
- Shrink-wrap-ready prep and general storage checklist

- Milky lower unit oil (water intrusion) last time it was checked

Winterization is quoted as a package based on engine type and size — outboard, I/O or inboard — after a short phone call. Add-ons like impeller replacement or trailer bearing service are quoted separately so you can pick what you want done.
Timing & season
In Minnesota, book winterization between mid-September and the end of October, before the first hard freeze. Spring commissioning — batteries, fluids, impeller check and a run test — is the same visit in reverse and gets scheduled April through May.

Can you winterize at my storage lot or cabin?
Yes, as long as I can reach the boat and have room to work around the trailer. Confirm with the lot owner that on-site service is allowed.
Do you also service the trailer?
Yes — bearings, lights, tires and trailer brakes are a common add-on while the boat is already parked.
What if I skipped winterizing last year?
Then it's worth checking lower unit oil and the water pump before storage this year. Water in the gearcase freezes and cracks housings.
